EAL at Park

At Park School we cater for children of all backgrounds and ethnicity. The diversity of culture in our school has a unique but beneficial learning and social impact on all of our children. This year we have developed an ‘English as an Additional Language’ learning suite, which is equipped with a range of visual learning aids to help with the acquisition of learning English. A full time EAL Teaching Assistant is employed to support the children and indeed, many other key staff have been trained to work with children who have language needs.

Children learning EAL - their needs will be individual; at all ages and stages, we feel it is important to work closely with parents to     share information about all aspects of their child’s development.

Staff work hard to ensure that practice is truly inclusive. All children and families receive equitable services and have opportunities to  participate, to be heard and to feel a sense of belonging within the school setting.

All children learn at different rates, in different ways and will vary from child to child regardless of their first language. We take great care not to make any assumptions about children due to their particular linguistic, cultural, social or ethnic background.

Working together as a whole staff, we are always seeking ways to improve practice for children and families for whom English is an additional language.
